We headed out today with our full packs that were full of groceries we had bought for the hostel. I didn’t want to waste food, and I knew we would do a slackpacking day and would be taking a zero in Heflin to ride out a storm. My pack was probably 5 pounds heavier than normal, lol.
The hike to the Heflin Spur was pretty nice, other than walking on the ridge ledge for some of it.
Once we got to the Heflin Spur, we realized that they were doing construction on the railroad there, but that didn’t hinder our hike. We did have some of the workers “play” with us over their loudspeakers. It was pretty funny.
The first several miles of the Heflin Spur were flat and covered with pine needles. In other words, it was heaven. But that soon changed to a steep freaking hill that seemed to go on forever!
Once we got out of the woods, it was about a mile road walk to City Hall and that mile road walk we are pretty sure was uphill the entire way.
We finally made it and went into City Hall to sign the guestbook and take our picture.
