What I Thought
I try not to eat a lot of spicy stuff (thanks to GI issues), so while I still did a taste test, I let my husband have the Spicy Southwest Breakfast Hash while I ate the Homestyle Turkey Casserole Dinner (he also taste tested it).
Like all Mountain House meals, both meals were quick and simple to make and clean up was a breeze thanks to being able to pour the water directly into the pouch. The only thing we had to clean was our forks!
Homestyle Turkey Dinner Casserole – A Thanksgiving meal anytime I want?!? That is how I felt eating this meal! It really reminded me of sitting down on Thanksgiving Day and stuffing myself with turkey and stuffing without the hours upon hours of cooking! This is now by far my favorite entree meal from Mountain House!
Spicy Southwest Breakfast Hash – Both my husband and I had the same opinion. While I only had few bites he devoured the bag like I hadn’t fed him in over a week! It has a great taste and while it does have a kick to it, it is about as spicy as a mild-medium salsa. He did say that it did a great job of filling him up, so it was the perfect portion size.

Don’t put off a return to the AT too long. It was always one of my goals, but in my late 60s, I think that time has passed. Pretty much a day hiker now… CPAP machine cuts down my range. Best of luck…

Ahhh yes the Texas storms! I was super thankful we have a small stockpile. Thankfully we didn’t have to use any (we didn’t lose power but several neighbors did for over a week). What a crazy storm! Our stockpile consists of individual meals but we also have several 10-pound cans of their meals and meats. I just recently found out they got rid of the Turkey Dinner…totally bummed as it was my favorite dinner meal from them.
I was hoping to start the AT again this month, but life had other plans. Now my son and I will be headed out there in June. I will only get 2 months before I have to drop him off at college but plan on coming back after and hopefully will finish up what I have left. If not, I may have to finish up what is left the following year.
