Not many are aware that every Friday before Mother’s Day is set aside as Military Spouse Appreciation Day. A day specifically for Military Spouses to be recognized for their courage, sacrifice, and support. However, it hasn’t always been this way.
It wasn’t until 1984 when President Ronald Reagan proclaimed that every Friday before Mother’s day be set aside to recognize the sacrifices that Military Spouses make, and thus we now have Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
So every Friday before Mother’s Day, don’t forget to honor those in the silent ranks. Those that stay behind and hold down the fort, and who also play a vital role in this nation’s defense.
To all my fellow Military Spouses, Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day. To everyone else, remember to thank any Military Spouse you know. We are the backbone of the Military that frequently goes unnoticed. We wear many hats in order to keep our fort maintained so our spouses can do their jobs without worrying about their families. Many times we are the ones who deal with the fallout of war returning service members long before the Military steps in to help. We bear a lot of happiness, heartache, and sacrifice. We stand tall when others flee. We love unconditionally. We are Military Spouses & we are Proud =) ~ Bridget Carlson
