2016 Road Trip: West & South Texas

June 27, 2016 by Nutty Hiker Last Modified: February 24, 2022Leave a Comment

Well after a year of trying to decide where we wanted to go on vacation for the month of July we decided to do a road trip around Texas! Welcome to our 2016 Road Trip!

Road Trip 2016

Originally, we planned (and I had it all mapped out) to do another multi-state road trip with our main destination being Yellowstone National Park. However, after replacing the truck’s transmission to the tune of $4000, we decided that we would stay closer to home in order to save money. That $4000 was our vacation fund!

Besides, Texas is pretty much its own country anyway, lol; with an abundance of sites to see!

The 2016 Road Trip Itinerary

We will start our vacation by heading west to the Caverns of Sonora. After an overnight stay, we will continue on to Fort Lancaster Historical Site, then to Historic Fort Stockton and the Old Cemetery.

Once we have had our fun, we will then head to our main destination, Guadalupe Mountains National Park we were will camp for about a week before heading into New Mexico to Carlsbad Caverns (that will be our 2nd visit as we stopped there during our last road trip).

Once we are done with the Caverns we will make our way to Rattlesnake Bomber Base before heading home. I am sure at some point I will add more “stops” to that leg of the trip so just keep an eye on my Instagram and Facebook for pictures as we stop!

But the vacation doesn’t stop there!

After a day or two of rest, we plan to also visit Corpus Christi to see the USS Lexington aka the Blue Ghost. From there we have no real plans, other than to make sure we are home by the 31st lol.

So keep an eye on the blog, I will update it as I can. I will more than likely be without any cell service while we are in the Guadalupe Mountains.
