With All Due Respect – Book Review

With all due respect: 40 Dares in 40 Days to Transform your relationship with your teen is a brilliant book that is a must-read for all parents of teens who find they are struggling to connect with their teen and struggling to navigate through the teen years.

Each chapter begins a new day with a different “struggle” that many parents of teens face. Within each day is a short story of someone else’s struggle that you immediately start to recognize as one of your own. I found great comfort knowing that I am not alone in this struggle or that it’s not just “us”, but parents all over the world that face the same type of struggles with their teens.

After each short story (example) is a “bottom line” no-nonsense sentence or two about what you should have learned from the story along with an extended explanation below it. The day ends with “What about you?” questions to ask yourself, along with a prayer specific to that day. I especially liked the prayer as I tend to struggle with my prayers when it comes to asking God for guidance.

This book could not have arrived in life at a better time, as me and my youngest daughter (15) are struggling with many of these same issues. I felt a peace of calm and rejuvenation after reading this book and I believe that I have found a better way to communicate with my daughter when all communication seemed lost.

In fact, my daughter even said that she feels more comfortable talking to me and that she notices and appreciates the change in me and in return I too have started noticing a change in her.

While this book will not repair a broken relationship with your teen overnight, it is an amazing tool in helping you to “rethink” your approach when dealing with teens in this day and age of modern technology.
