Wildlife Viewing – Over 200 species of birds live in or migrate through the Ruidoso area and elk, deer, bears, and wild horses are frequently seen in and around the town. Bald eagles are frequently seen at Grindstone and Alto lakes and you can even see the occasional mountain lion in the area. Basically, if you love viewing / photographing wildlife you are in the right area to do so!

Mountain Biking – With over 150 miles of trails nearby encompassing all skill levels, you are sure to find yourself never wanting to leave!

Hiking & Backpacking – Located near the Lincoln National Forest there are one 300 miles of trails for all skill levels. Whether you are looking for a quick stroll through the tree’s or a more strenuous climb to a mountain, you will find it here!

Ziplines – Home of the Wind Rider ZipTour at Ski Apache this zipline is one of the world’s longest at over 8800 feet! Located at an elevation of 11,489 ft. at the top of Ski Apache with a length of 8,890 feet and speeds up to 65MPH, this biplane takes about an estimated 1.5 hour to complete and offers amazing views of Southern New Mexico! For even more thrills, book their Wind Rider Dark Tour and zipline under the starry sky.

Fishing – From mountain lakes to creeks, Ruidoso offers year-round fishing for most waters!

Snow Skiing & Snowboarding – Whether you are looking to snow ski or snowboard, Ski Apache offers the best warm-weather powder skiing in the world. The slopes offer a mix of wide beginner slopes, tough bump runs, a huge bowl, nice cruising runs and a terrain park with jumps, tubes, and rails.

Snow Tubing – If trying to balance yourself on ski’s or a board really isn’t your thing, head over to Ruidoso Winter Park for some snow tubing. Whether you are looking to solo, tandem or take the entire family along for the ride there are tube sizes for every occasion! Oh, and I forgot to mention, you can rent your own igloo complete with table and chairs!

Horseback Riding – Whether you plan to take your galloping beauty out for a stroll or prefer to do a guided trail tour through one of the local stables, there are over 100 miles of equine trails near Ruidoso.

Water Sports – Spend some time on Grindstone Lake canoeing, kayaking, or paddle boarding.

Camping & RVing – Whether you are looking to camp at one of the many lakes in the area or within the National Forest nearby, Ruidoso has you covered!

    Such an interesting village, Bridget!
    I’ve got excited about the hiking trails that seems intertwined with several options.
