Dear PTSD I Hate You

Dear PTSD, I Hate YouĀ by Bridget Carlson

Dear PTSD…
I hate what you have done to my marriage.
I hateĀ that you destroyedĀ an amazing man and friend.
I hate that you have madeĀ me feel weak and vulnerable.
I hate that you show up at the drop of a hat.
I hate that you can’tĀ leave us alone.
I hate that you makeĀ them feelĀ ashamed and alone.
I hate that you make meĀ feel scared.
But most of all I hateĀ that I am not strong enough on my own to destroy you and your destructive ways.
You are a bullyĀ and I hate you.

Hi., I was married to a man who suffered from PTSD. Although, he claims it was related to his time in the military., I know it first appeared from an abusive family and an abusive brother in law.
The military made it worse. He was also a veterans rep and had left his job when he was convinced from a spouse of a dying veteran that she will help him overcome his PTSD if he gets her husband disability. My husband’s PTSD became so severe. He never sees his children, he turned his back on his family, he looks very ill and I know that it is the disease that has made it difficult for him to make the correct decisions and to stand on his own. Please Please dont fall into the hands of the wrong people.. Those who suffer from PTSD need someone they can truly trust to help them…or the vultures in life can even make life worse for you….My children have not seen there father in 15 years and yet the disease is still progresssing despite him being told that his disease will go away if he leaves his family. Well the disease is still there and his disease is worse. DOn become vulnerable and get into the wrong persons hands who truly doesn’t care about nothing but themselves.

I am not sure who would have told him the disease would go away if he left his family, but they are sadly mistaken and very misinformed. If it was a medical doctor, they need to have their medical license revoked. PTSD only gets better with treatment and support from family or in the absence of family, close friends. It does not get better with isolation, in fact that will just make it MUCH worse.
