Day 5 was an amazing day! We left Jarrad Gap to head towards Neel Gap (and climb Blood Mountain) on time. It was sunny but cold. Perfect for climbing a mountain.

The climb up Blood Mountain was not nearly as bad as everyone said it would be. Sure it wasn’t a cakewalk, but it was nice (even the up part lol).

Once we made it to the top, we had fun exploring and eating a snack before we made the long and grueling descent down into Neel Gap.

The descent, while it seemed to take forever, I found pretty darn fun. I loved the rock scrambling part of it. It broke up the monotony of tripping over rocks and roots lol.

Once into Neel Gap, we found that Splitter (the same shuttle driver that took us from Dahlonega back to Cooper Gap) was in the parking lot dropping off another hiker. We quickly secured his services to take us into Blairsville.

Before heading out though, he told us to take our time looking around Mountains Crossing (the outfitter there). Ripley decided to change out her pack and I picked up my first resupply package from Jerry. We also took pictures of the famous tree of shoes (this is a popular place for hikers to quit and when they do, they throw their shoes in the tree).

Once we were done, we hopped into the truck with Snorelax and off to the Best Western in Blairsville we went for our first zero!
