Being an Army Instructor’s Wife blows! Not that being his wife sucks or the fact that he is an instructor sucks. It’s the uncertain hours that suck! When he first became an instructor I would try to wait to cook dinner till he got home. All that did was lead us to eat out and me gaining 20 pounds because of it. Not to mention some rather angry kids that would have liked to eat sooner rather than later.
His day starts around 4:15 am. He is usually out the door by 4:45 am. He does get to come home for about 30 minutes after PT usually around 7 am and then at 7:30 am he is gone again. I don’t see him again until lunchtime around 11:45 and then he heads back into work around 12:45 pm.
Ok not too bad so far right? It’s pretty predictable. Now he gets home every day around…….oh wait there is no set time that he gets home. It could be anywhere from 6 pm to 9 pm. And that my friends is why it blows!
So now I cook my meals in time for them to be ready around 6 pm and just hope he gets home by then. If not, well it all goes into the fridge so he can eat when he gets home (whenever that may be). Then when he does get home he is so tired that he usually eats and then goes to bed, just to start the process all over again the next day.
The only real time we get to spend with him is on the weekends, which around here are pretty hectic and about to become more hectic with our 3 kids being enrolled into sports!
Now you may ask why I am writing this blog entry.
Well, every Tuesday they have “training” meetings. Not that they need them, it’s just really a reason for the commander (who has no kids and is not married) to keep these guys away from their families. Training meetings are held after work hours and run for however long she wants them to run. I really hate Tuesday’s.
Ahh, the life of an instructors wife!!!!!
