Ask Bridget Column

Ask Bridget Column

I moved to Harker Heights June of 2013. Little did I know that two years later I would become a journalist for my local newspaper. Oddly enough, I did not go to college for journalism; instead I earned a degree in criminal justice and a degree in legal studies.

I started writing about 15 years ago when I was a brand spanking new military wife. I knew nothing about the military lifestyle, however I was eager to learn.

Before I knew it, I was the one that new wives were coming to in order to get their questions answered; and with that my Dear Military Spouse column was born.

After a decade of writing my column and writing for Examiner.com as their Military Marriage Examiner, I put down my pen and proclaimed I was done writing; or so I thought!

Shortly after we moved to Harker Heights, my husband deployed and I started hiking. In fact I decided to hike 1,000 miles as my way of showing support for the 3CR troops that were deployed. Pretty soon the local news got a hold of the story and it spread like wildfire.

People from all over the country joined in, and it was suggested that I start a blog; so I did. My blog not only kept my followers up to date on my miles, but they also got to share in on my crazy antics on the hiking trail.

With that, I started writing again; and soon after my local newspaper contacted me to ask if I would be interested in writing for them.

I have since taken over for my editor who moved to the paper in Belton. I plan on writing a weekly column and hope that the residents of Harker Heights and readers of the paper will not only find useful information, but may also get a laugh out of my sometimes crazy antics that I share. I will also answer questions that are sent in for my Ask Bridget column.

I haven’t exactly figured out how many times a month I will run the Ask Bridget column yet. I guess that depends on our amazing readers! I am thankful that I have an amazing group of area experts that I can turn to in our city to get the answers you need; or if you need advice, I can give that too!

If you have a question you would like answered, please email them to askbridget@yahoo.com or connect with me on Facebook at fb.com/nuttyhiker.
