Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) & Edgewood Arsenal

February 2, 2012 by Nutty Hiker Last Modified: February 21, 2022Leave a Comment

APG & Edgewood were recently realigned due to BRAC, which has caused most of the Military units to be moved elsewhere. Nonetheless, there are still Military units there, but mostly these Army Posts now consist of Contractors & DOD Civilians.

ON POST HOUSING: As of 2011, there weren’t that many on Edgewood or APG (the larger of the 2) and the waitlist was rather lengthy and most were older and run down.

BEST HAIR SALON/DAY SPA/NAILS/WAXING: I personally recommend Allure Hair Studio & Day Spa in Bel Air. They are not only a day spa but also a hair and nail salon. Their services range from hair cuts to Brazilian waxing to Massage. They really are your one-stop shop for everything. Their staff is super nice and very professional. Brittany was my stylist for the entire time we were stationed there (and boy do I miss her)! I cannot say enough good things about this place.

SCHOOLS: There are no schools on post. We were stationed at Edgewood Arsenal and lived out in town. Our children attended Edgewood Middle School and Deerfield Elementary. We never had too much of a problem and definitely never worried about any crime. The teachers communicated with the parents very well and were always available to answer questions either via phone or email.

SHOPPING: You have 2 malls fairly close. Harford Mall which was in Bel Air (about a 10-15 minute drive) and the bigger mall (White Marsh Mall) which was about a 25 minute drive from Edgewood in White Marsh Maryland.  You have a Wal-Mart fairly close to both posts (about a 5 minute drive from each). Most of your shopping is in Bel-Air.

GRUB/FOOD: Other than a couple of Fast Food restaurants, you will need to either go into Bel Air or
