How Ironic; The Transmissions Last Stand

Several months ago the transmission in my truck went out, kinda. By kinda, I mean that if the transmission was hot it would not go. If it was cold, it would work for roughly 5 minutes.

My husband changed the transmission fluid and filter (thank goodness for being married to a mechanic) and for the next several months the transmission was running well.

Fast forward to last week and my husband calls to tell me the transmission just blew that he has already called Ray’s Mechanics to come get it. I asked where he was and then I made my way to him.

As I pull up to the stoplight to turn to where he is, I can see my truck and right next to it is…..a transmission shop. Yes, my truck blew its transmission literally in front of a transmission shop. How ironic.

That is my truck on the far left. It actually blew as he was making the turn from where I am and he coasted to that parking lot.

And while buying a transmission to the tune of $4000 was not something that we really wanted to drop that much money on, at least I had several months to prepare for it. We both knew it was coming. Changing the transmission fluid and filter was just a temporary band-aid.

My truck has been really good to me. My husband bought it for me as a mother’s day present one year. I keep getting asked why I don’t just buy a new one. It’s mostly non-Texans that ask this, as they don’t understand the bond between a Texas Woman and her truck.

I have the truck exactly how I want it, well other than I want bigger tires back on it. I let my husband talk me into going down a size last year. He said I wouldn’t notice a difference. Liar! It looks like matchbox car tires on a monster truck. Just pure ridiculousness.
