Wigwam Village Hotel, Arizona Rt 66

One of the stops I wanted to make was at the Wigwam Village Hotel on old Route 66 in Arizona. I had seen pictures on Pinterest for several years (as well as on Facebook) and knew someday I wanted to make it out there to take a picture.

It wasn’t what I imagined from the pictures I had seen. I imagined it being on a section of route 66 that wasn’t as developed with a beautiful background. Just like the pictures made it seem.

What I found was the old motel located in a city with buildings all behind it. Either way, it was still pretty cool. From what I could tell, it is no longer a “working” motel, but rather a reminder of what once was. I could be wrong because according to research everything says that you can still book a stay.

What made the experience even “cooler” was that they had old cars still parked out in front of several of them. You really could imagine standing there when route 66 was the gateway to the west!

I noticed on our Roadtrippers route that a couple of other wigwam motels are located in different states. This particular one was completed in 1950 and was the 6th Wigwam Village. Out of the seven wigwam villages, only three remain; this one as well as one in California and Kentucky.

This particular one (and probably the most well-known one because it’s located on old route 66) is located in Holbrook, Arizona on West Hopi Drive.

Oh and apparently the office was made into a museum, however, we arrived in the early evening hours, so we didn’t get a chance to stop in.
