PCS Blog: Found A House

House

I just got back from 10 days of being gone to Texas. The entire purpose of the trip was to buy a house. Unfortunately  Jerry couldn’t go since his Fire 1 class has not finished yet. However, my Mom did go with me which was awesome! It’s been several decades since we have spent some one on one time together.

Since Jerry couldn’t go, it was up to me to pick out our perfect house. Thankfully me and Jerry have very similar taste. Facetime also helped with the process (thank god for the iPhone!). I met with my Realtor Sunday morning and we started my house tour. I had already sent her a list of about 20 houses that I wanted to see and she had some as well. At the end of the day, her husband wanted to show me a house that was not on my list. He said however there was something that was missing on my must have list, but he wanted to see if I could figure it out. The house was gorgeous! It literally had everything we wanted, or so I thought. I realized there was no 4th bedroom. However it did have a completely enclosed study with doors that was big, and so the 4th bedroom was born!

It was also on a very large corner lot in one of the nicest subdivisions in the area. All schools were within a mile of the house. It literally was in an amazing location. Add into the fact that it also had a 3 car garage, sprinkler system, and alarm system (non of which were on our feature list) and this really was the perfect home! But I had another day of house touring to see.

The next day was spent looking at homes that had acreage. Unfortunately, the land was perfect, but the houses, although they were nice, seemed too small for my liking (I wanted at least 2500 sqft). However the next day I had 1 more house to look at, a 4500 sqft historical mansion in the heart of temple. I absolutely loved the historical home, and the outside was in great shape. The inside was also in pretty decent shape. Most of the rooms had been restored but there was still a lot of work to be done on it. And honestly, if my children were already out of the home, that is the house I would have bought. My husband loved it as well and was excited to be able to renovate it. But living in the home with 3 of my children while we renovated the rest of the rooms that needed it, would have been a nightmare. And I pretty much already had my mind made up of which house I was going to buy, the 3ish bedroom home my Realtor’s husband showed us. They always say when you look for a home, you will fall in love with one. You will just “know” which one to buy. And that house was it. It was also the house my husband kept thinking about.

So after we left the mansion we went back to my Realtor’s office and put in an offer on the home in Harker Heights. The next 2.5 days was hell as I waited for a response!

After some negotiation,  the sales contract has been signed and we HAVE A HOME! Our inspection happens this coming week and we are set to close on April 25th or so!
