PCS time again!

January 21, 2013 by Nutty Hiker Last Modified: February 17, 2022Leave a Comment

It’s that time again! Yes, folks it is PCS time again! We came down on orders (finally) in November. The report date was set for the end of October (we weren’t happy about them being so far out), so hubby put in a request for early reporting and as of last week that date was approved and we now have amended orders! Our new report date is for the end of August. Hubby plans on taking 30 days leave (so we can get all settled in), so we should be leaving here around the beginning of August!

You know what that means!? The countdown has begun and I will be keeping another PCS blog. This time I PROMISE to do much better on keeping it updated. After all this is our FINAL PCS EVER! That’s right! This will be our last PCS. Hubby is set to retire in 3 years! I am happy, sad, and excited all at the same time! Is that even possible?

So as of today Jan 21st we have roughly 6 months until the movers show up to pack our stuff! But there’s a catch! It could be even sooner. Seeing as this is our last PCS and we were able to obtain the post we wanted to retire at, we will be buying a house. Now mind you we live 1400 miles (22 hours) away. So in addition to the normal PCS crap, I am now throwing in looking for and buying a house BEFORE we move! As of right now our kids get out for Spring Break the beginning of April. We plan on taking that time to make the trip to Texas to look at and hopefully find a house (we will already be pre-approved through our lender). So once we find a house, we will put an offer in right on the spot, and then will go through the inspections and everything else that needs to be done while we have come back to Virginia. When it comes time to close we are hoping they can have a company in Virginia do it, otherwise I will have to make another trip back down to close.

Thankfully with our search starting in April it will give us some wiggle room should we have to choose another house (if for some reason the inspection comes back not to our liking). Now if we are able to close on the house in April or May, then me and the kids may be loading up and heading down there the end of June, so we can start painting and decorating things before the movers show up with our stuff (hey it’s so much easier to paint when there is no furniture)!

So as you can see this is not going to be your normal PCS. Let the chaos begin!
