Tomb Rider 3D & Free Arcade in San Antonio

January 13, 2017 by Nutty Hiker Last Modified: February 24, 20221 Comment

The first time we visited San Antonio I passed the Tomb Rider 3D attraction up due to thinking it was like a roller coaster (due to health reasons I cannot ride them). However, after talking to the ticket person, he assured me that it’s more like a train ride than anything.

There is a small dip at the beginning, however, it’s only about a story high and goes slow.

The ride is actually a 3D interactive, glow-in-the-dark, laser gun shooting adventure ride. You are given special 3D glasses which make it much harder to hit your target. Your score is recorded in front of you on the car. We cheated and took our glasses off the first go around.

Also, just FYI there is a point in the ride where a typical ride souvenir picture is taken:

Photo Souvenir Op (yes it is something that is meant to startle you!)

The ride ends in the basement and you are then given the opportunity to play in the arcade (for free) for as long as you want. You then take the stairs to the first level where you then exit.

Our Thoughts

It was fun and definitely worth doing. This was the first one I had ever seen, unlike the wax museum, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and the Guinness World Record museum which seem to be in every major city.

The ride is so slow and easy, that a toddler could ride it. The theme is an Egyptian tomb, which of course, we thought was cool since we love movies like The Mummy.

The kids (our teenagers) really loved it too. We also liked the fact that you could go through it as many times as you wanted as long as it was on the same day. This turned out perfect since I wanted our souvenir picture retaken (the kid’s picture turned out great, but myself and my husband were not looking in the right direction when ours was taken the first time.)

While you are here, check out the Mirror Maze.

I love everything 3d so it’s nice to see a ride like this. I can’t wait to give it a try myself.
