What an amazing ride today! We started the day unsure if we would be able to do this ride. When we left the hotel, it was foggy, and it just got worse the closer we got to Keystone.
Since we could not do Iron Mountain Rd in the fog, we decided to try to find a place in Keystone to have breakfast. Apparently, everyone else had the same idea. The wait was two hours!
We finally found a small cafe heading out of town that we had eaten at last time. There was no wait. The food and service were completely different than before. Instead of a sit-down order from a menu restaurant like before, it was now a very small buffet with very few food options. Turns out, ownership had changed. How unfortunate because it was pretty good food last time.
After breakfast, the fog had lifted and we started our ride.
We began our ride going down Iron Mountain Rd to Custer State Park, where we did the wildlife loop.
Most of the ride was uneventful, but once we got towards the end, we found a herd of Bison in a field, so we stopped along with everybody else to get pictures from a very far distance because you should never ever get close to fluffy cows.
Once we got back on the road, we headed towards Hot Springs. It wasn’t long before we found another herd of bison; this time they were along the road and in the road.
Thankfully, they were good boys and girls and let us and other bikers pass without incident. However, if you were in an automobile, they blocked you and refused to move, lol. They must like bikers more, haha.
The ride to Hot Springs was beautiful.
We ended our ride at the Mammoth Site dig site in Hot Springs.
