Day 11
The pain in my shoulders was worse with the pack on, but I aimed to push through and hoped it would eventually disappear. It did not. We made it to camp and came across the first area where we didn’t have cell service. I made the decision to go ahead and go home to switch my pack back to Old Faithful. I don’t know if it was the pack or the long heavy water carry that caused it. I had no problem with the pack until that point. This was a hard decision to make because my head was telling me to stay, but my gut said to leave trail. I have learned to trust my gut, so I used the Garmin to reach my husband and make plans with Next Step Hostel to pick me up the next day.
Day 12
Today, we did the rock garden as we made our way to Claremont Gap where Nancy with Next Step Hostel would be picking me up. I still didn’t want to leave the trail. The rock garden was something else! Just when you think you are done, there’s more…and more…and more. Thankfully, we didn’t get lost. Although, it was hard to follow the trail at the very beginning.
I’ll be back on the trail on January 20th; this time, I will have my husband with me as we make our way to Maine as part of my BamatoBaxter trek. In the end, it worked out great. I had way more stuff that needed to be done back at home and some things that needed to be dealt with than I realized.
Always listen to your gut =)
