Nutberg Drinkable Meal Review

July 1, 2018 by Nutty Hiker Last Modified: February 18, 2022Leave a Comment

This post and giveaway are sponsored by Nutberg Drinkable Meals.

I was so stoked when this company reached out to me about sending over some of their drinkable meals for me to test out. I was even happier when they agreed to also give away some to one of my lucky readers as well! The entry form for the giveaway will be at the bottom of this post after my review.

Nutberg Drinkable Meal

MY REVIEW

I love the fact that this meal is not only made from natural ingredients but also comes in drinkable form. Let’s face it, sometimes you just don’t want to stop hiking to fix a meal. This makes it simple to get great nutrition and takes less than 5 minutes to make and consume; so you can get right back to hiking.

I was sent all three flavors to test out and have to say that while they all tasted amazing, the banana flavor was my favorite. Each meal is right around 500 calories, which makes it perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

I also love that because this is so easy to make, that I can use it off the trail while I am at the office. Like right now as I type this blog post at lunchtime, I am drinking the Cocoa meal which definitely beats my usual lunch of a very unhealthy meal from my local fast food joint!

The Taste Test

The banana was my favorite. I also found that 325 ml of water (it says to add 300-350ml of water or milk) made the perfect consistency for me. I also had to have it cold. It was not appealing to me at all with cold tap water, I needed it COLD (like add ice or use a water bottle that came out of the fridge cold).

It has the consistency of a smoothie with small flakes of oats. If you have a blender on hand you can actually blend it for a much smoother consistency. Without the blender, you will need to shake VERY well using the blender ball that they provide. It does mix together fairly well using this method. If you opt to not use the blender ball, you will have several large clumps that do not get mixed, so use the blender ball!

Overall

A great product. It kept me full for several hours (just like a meal would). It is also healthy so I didn’t feel weighed down after eating or sluggish. On the trail, this would be amazing (assuming I could find water from a cold spring). In the office, it works perfectly for a quick meal while working.

It has a great taste and there is no aftertaste (like you would think of with all those “health” meal replacement shakes on the market), since this is made with natural ingredients. Speaking of ingredients, I know what each single ingredient is on the ingredient list!

The Bad

Ok, so this isn’t bad, but I do wish they had more flavors to choose from. I am thinking cinnamon roll =)

ABOUT NUTBERG

Made from natural ingredients with a recipe that was perfected with the help of nutrition experts, Nutberg comes in three different flavors: Nutberg Classic has a natural oatmeal-like taste with hints of coconut and hazelnut. In the Cocoa flavor, you can taste genuine cocoa with a touch of coffee. The Banana flavor comes directly from actual bananas and you will really taste it.

In the past, we found it difficult to get proper nutrition on busy days and long hikes. Sick of artificial tasting and overly-sweet drinks, we decided to create our own drinkable meal!

We experimented with natural ingredients to create something that was nutritious, tasty, and convenient. Thanks to the help of nutrition experts, we perfected our recipe and in March 2016 Nutberg was born!
