Hi Bridget! We just moved to the area and love the outdoors. I have been following you for a while (since your Dear Military Spouse days) and I know you love to hike, so where are the best places to hike that aren’t too far away? I really am not looking for trails within the city, if you know what I mean? Where do you hike? From the pictures, it looks just like the place we are looking for?
First of all, welcome! I have some great news for you, the place I hike is called Dana Peak Park and it is in Harker Heights! Well, some of it is anyway! Crazy to think trails and terrain like that would be located so incredibly close to home!
Dana Peak Park has hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails. I have hiked most of the park, but not all of it. The longest hike to date that I have done was 15 miles. It took about 5 hours. There is even a trail that connects Dana Peak Park to Stillhouse Park; I have yet to venture in that direction.
My point is, there are so many trails out there that you could literally spend all day hiking and still not complete them all.
What I love most about the trails at Dana Peak Park are the terrain and the view. You have trails that range from super easy to “what in the heck was I thinking”. Plus, there are several mountains (that is what we call them here in Texas) that have trails that lead to the peaks and offer an amazing view!
If you would ever like to go on a hike with me, I’d love the company! Just get in touch with me on Facebook http://facebook.com/NuttyHiker. Be forewarned though, that our hiking adventure may end up on my blog and in my column within the newspaper.
Happy Trails to you and as always, please make sure to follow proper trail etiquette when using the trails!
Just moved to the area! I’ll have to check out Dana Peak!
