Diagnosed with Lyme disease

April 28, 2010 by Nutty Hiker Last Modified: March 24, 20161 Comment

Lyme Disease

Several weeks ago I posted an entry titled I hate Military Contracted Doctors. Here is a follow up.

I kept my original appointment that was scheduled for yesterday since the appointment from several weeks ago left me irritated more than anything; good thing I did.

This time I saw a different doctor.

I let her know all of my symptoms and told her that I would also like to know what the results were from my Lyme disease test. She said “oh ok so you already had that done?” I said yes. So she looked it up in the computer and asked “so no one called you?”.

I said no and she let me know that my test did come back positive and that it could be cured with a short 2 week dose of antibiotics. She asked me how long ago I had been bitten. I said it was over a year ago. That’s when her facial expression went from optimistic to “oh crap”. I thought doctor’s were suppose to have great poker faces?

Anyway, so instead of a short dose. I now have to take 4 weeks worth of high dosage antibiotics then have to come back in after those 4 weeks to see how my symptoms are and try and determine what (if any) permanent damage I have suffered (as well as to make sure it is gone, if not then I will be placed in the hospital).

We know I am in the late stages of it, as it is also affecting my heart, memory, and joints. My symptoms as of now are joint pain, major fatigue, heart palpitations, chest pain, trouble concentrating, memory loss (it really sucks when you forget how to fold a towel), headaches, irritability, and insomnia. Some days are better than others. The degree of the symptoms seems to change from day to day.

Today I started my antibiotic which is known to make those who take it sick. And boy did it! Thankfully my doctor also gave me a 30 day prescription of anti nausea medication to take with it.

So that is my latest and greatest news. Oh on a positive note, we did get our passport applications mailed off today and was told we should have them in about 3 weeks. Yippee, just that much closer to a much needed VACATION!!!!
