When in Austin……visit the Texas State Capitol Building!
5 Reasons Why You Will Love the Texas State Capitol Building
1 . The architect and hardware features throughout the building are absolutely breathtaking!
2. You can stand across the inside rotunda and whisper and your friend can hear you (seriously, try it out).
3. The outdoor rotunda is just as stunning as the inside one (and also a hidden gem that most don’t know about)!
4. The capitol grounds are filled with monuments.
5. You get to feast your eyes on the Senate and House of Representatives Chambers.
Planning Your Trip To the Texas State Capitol Building
There is no admission and it is open to the public for self-guided tours from 9 am-10 pm weekdays and from 9 am-8 pm on the weekends. You can park in the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage at 1201 San Jacinto. It’s free for the first 2 hours (during the weekend and special events the 2-hour freebie may not be available). As always check beforehand!
I would plan on being there for about 2 hours. That will give you time to stop by the visitors center and gift shop as well as take a tour of the State Capitol Building. You can find out everything you need to know at the official website.
Make sure to also tour the grounds, they have some pretty cool sculptures and beautiful settings for pictures.
