Q. Does a Marine have a choice of where to marry? Can they marry in their finance’s hometown or does it have to be at the military base in a different state? My friends were going to marry in June 2012 but now the marine will deploy overseas at the end of March. Thank you.
They can marry wherever they choose. The Marine (or servicemember) may have to take leave in order to do so, but they are not restricted on where they choose to get married.
Usually, the trickiest part is getting leave approved especially if the Marine is close to deploying. This also goes for any branch of the Military, not just the Marine Corps. Remember that the needs of the military will always come first, so your marriage date should be flexible, especially if your wedding date is far out.
As far as location or setting, no they are NOT restricted to getting married in the state they are stationed on or restricted to being married by say the base Chaplin, etc… He is free to marry in whichever state he chooses, not just the one he is stationed at or is listed as his home of record!
