Improbable Planet Book Review

February 6, 2017 by Nutty Hiker Last Modified: February 6, 2017Leave a Comment

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=0801016894&Format= SL250 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=nuttyhiker 20ir?t=nuttyhiker 20&l=li3&o=1&a=0801016894I was sent a complimentary copy of Improbable Planet: How Earth Became Humanity’s Home by the publisher to review. I was excited to review this book because it seemed so interesting!

Unfortunately, I found the book hard to read and understand. So much so, that I literally could not finish it, as I had no understanding of what I was reading. It really was like trying to read a foreign language.

I consider myself pretty smart and well-educated (I hold two degrees), however, I was completely lost after the first chapter.

It feels like this book was written for philosophers and other geniuses despite what the description on the inside of the cover reads.

With that said, I suggest reading the second chapter on Amazon, you know by reading that chapter if this book is for you or not.

From The Inside Cover of Improbable Planet:

Most of us remember the basics from science classes about how Earth came to be the only known planet that sustains complex life. But what most people don’t know is that the more thoroughly researchers investigate the history of our planet, the more astonishing the story of our existence becomes.

The number and complexity of the astronomical, geological, chemical and biological features recognized as essential to human existence have expanded explosively within the past decade. An understanding of what is required to make possible a large human population and advanced civilizations has raised profound questions about life, our purpose, and our destiny.

This fascinating book helps nonscientists understand the countless miracles that undergird the exquisitely fine-tuned planet we call home–as if Someone had us in mind all along.
