We went to the (HOT) Heart of Texas Fair & Rodeo for the first time today. The fair is held in Waco and tends to run about the same time that the State Fair of Texas runs in October but only for about a week.
As a kid, the only fair I ever knew was the State Fair of Texas. Imagine my surprise when I learned that, apparently, not all fairs are as big as the State Fair!
After moving out of the state and attending other fairs, you can imagine my disappointment seeing how small others are. Granted they all had their own unique “fun stuff”, like tractor pulls, jet cars, etc… But nothing ever compared to the State Fair of Texas!
Anyway, back to the Heart of Texas Fair & rodeo. Obviously, when you compare it to the state fair it is small and the rides are more like carnival rides. However, there were plenty of vendors, rides, and of course the stock show!
My kids loved it because of the petting zoo. In fact, I didn’t think I would ever get them out of the makeshift barn where all the animals were being held.
The prices for everything were well priced (you could buy an all day armband for the rides). The games (just like any carnival) were overpriced as well as some of the food.
They also have concerts, however, we went during the day on a Sunday, so I cannot give any testament to the quality of the concerts that are typically held more in the evening hours.
Overall Thoughts
Great for spending the day with the family. I suggest spending the day and evening there to take in the concerts and other acts. Check their website for discounts before going and take cash! You have to trade cash in for tokens (this is how you pay for food, drinks, and games). You can purchase wristbands at the booth with cash.
