The former Sawyer Family House was one of the filming locations for the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. It was originally located on Quick Hill Road in Round Rock near I-35, about ten miles north of Austin, Texas.
In 1998 it was bought by the Antlers Hotel and dismantled then moved to Kingsland, Texas. It was reopened as The Junction House Restaurant and had a Leatherface dummy at the top of the stairs. In 2012 The Junction House Restaurant was closed down and it was bought by Rick Gregory and Drew Gerencer and became the Grand Central Cafe. The new owners no longer stress the connection between the house and the filming of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The Leatherface dummy, which was a highlight of the old Junction House Restaurant, is now gone and other than the historical plaque at the entrance of the parking lot, there is no mention of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie.
This is just one of several places that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was filmed at. Also check out the Bagdad Cemetery filming location. For those that are not aware, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was not real. It is completely fiction. Thought I would clear that up because I do get a lot of emails about it.
Our Thoughts on old Sawyer Family House aka Grand Central Cafe
We had dinner at the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was very intimate and food was good. Definitely not somewhere you would wear shorts and a tank top to.
I wish they made more of a connection to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie and was pretty disappointed that they don’t. Actually I was pretty disappointed to see nothing mentioned or any souvenirs from the movie anywhere in the house (that I noticed).
Still a pretty cool place to visit if you are in the area and a big movie buff.
