Planning a Route 66 road trip is almost as much fun as actually hitting the road. There are quirky roadside attractions to find, historic motels to check out, old-school diners to visit, and more neon signs than you can possibly photograph.
But once the trip begins, something else happens: you start collecting stories.
There’s the little diner you found by accident, the roadside attraction that was way better (or weirder!) than expected, the people you met along the way, and those unplanned detours that somehow became some of your favorite memories.
That’s exactly why I created My Route 66 Mother Road Story, a Route 66 travel journal and logbook designed to help you document all those memories as you travel the Mother Road.
Why I Created a Route 66 Travel Journal
A Route 66 road trip isn’t your typical vacation. Sure, you’re traveling from Point A to Point B, but the real adventure is everything that happens in between.
One minute you’re cruising down an old stretch of Route 66, and the next you’re pulling over because someone spotted a giant roadside attraction that absolutely requires a photo.
And then there are all the little details you swear you’ll remember.
What was the name of that diner?
Where was that amazing neon sign?
How many miles did we drive that day?
What town had that cool old gas station?
A few months, or a few years later, those details can become a little fuzzy.
I wanted a way to keep them all together, and I couldn’t find a logbook that fit all my criteria.
So I created My Route 66 Mother Road Story as part travel journal, part Route 66 logbook, and part memory book.
It’s a place to tell your Mother Road story.
What’s Inside My Route 66 Mother Road Story?
I designed the journal specifically with a Route 66 road trip in mind.
Instead of staring at a completely blank page wondering what to write, you’ll have prompts that help you capture the details of each day while still leaving plenty of room to make the journal your own.

You can record things such as
- The date and weather
- Your starting location
- Your stopping location
- Type of accommodation
- Miles traveled
- Places and attractions you visited
- Notes and memories from the day
- A favorite photo
- Route 66 stamps and stickers you collected that day
- Road conditions
- and more
The goal isn’t to document every single minute of your trip.
It’s to capture the things you’ll actually want to remember.
A Route 66 Logbook for Every Day of Your Adventure
One of the things I love about road trips is that you never really know how the day will unfold.
You might start the morning with a carefully planned itinerary and end up spending two hours somewhere you didn’t even know existed, or, in our case, five hours in a small town where you expected to spend only a couple of minutes photographing murals (thanks, Lockport, IL, lol).
With the Route 66 travel journal, My Route 66 Mother Road Story, you can keep a daily record of where the road took you.
Write down the places you visited, how far you traveled, something funny that happened, a favorite meal, an unexpected discovery, or anything else that made that particular day memorable.
You don’t have to be a writer, either.
A few sentences, quick notes, or even a funny quote from the day may be all it takes to bring those memories flooding back years later.
Don’t Forget Those Route 66 Stamps and Stickers!
If you’ve already started researching your Route 66 trip, you may have discovered that collecting stamps and stickers along the Mother Road can become a hobby all by itself, thanks to all the Route 66 Passports that are out there.
And trust me, once you start collecting them, you’re probably going to want more.
That was something I definitely wanted to account for when creating this Route 66 travel journal.
My Route 66 Mother Road Story gives you space to add the stamps and stickers you collect during your travels for that day.
There are also extra pages at the end of the book where you can add even more stamps, stickers, notes, photos, and other small pieces of memorabilia from your trip or use them as an overflow.
Over time, your Route 66 travel journal becomes more than a logbook; it becomes a scrapbook of your adventure.
Turn Your Route 66 Road Trip Into a Keepsake
Think about opening your Route 66 travel journal five or ten years from now.
You might see a sticker and immediately remember the little gift shop where you bought it.
A photograph might remind you of the ridiculous number of attempts it took to get the perfect shot (high winds and a cheap selfie tripod do not mix well).
A handwritten note from a fellow traveler might bring back a memory you had completely forgotten; even something as simple as seeing how many miles you traveled that day can bring back memories of that particular stretch of road.
Those are the little things that make a travel journal special.
It’s not just about where you went; it’s about your story of getting there.
Every Route 66 Road Trip Tells a Different Story
Generations of road trippers, dreamers, adventurers, and travelers have traveled Route 66, but no one will experience it exactly the way you do.
You’ll have your own favorite roadside attractions, your own favorite diners, your own unexpected discoveries, your own detours, your own “we HAVE to stop here” moments, and probably a few “what in the world is THAT?” moments, too.
Those are the memories worth saving.
That’s why I named the journal My Route 66 Mother Road Story.
Because when your trip is over, you won’t just have a list of places you visited.
You’ll have the story of your journey down America’s Mother Road.
Ready to Start Your Route 66 Story?
If a Route 66 road trip is on your bucket list, or you already have your adventure planned, My Route 66 Mother Road Story was created to travel right along with you.
Toss it in the car, fill it out each day, add stamps and stickers as you go, and watch it become one of your favorite souvenirs from the trip.
Because someday, long after you’ve driven that final mile, you’ll be able to open your Route 66 travel journal and travel the Mother Road all over again.
