Route 66 turns 100 years old this year, and we will be getting our kicks on it for 4-6 weeks!
The plan is to stay only in campgrounds, BLM land, national forest land, and boutique old motels. We have set aside 6 weeks to traverse the Mother Road in hopes that we don’t miss a single inch of nostalgia.
We will follow the original alignment, whatever is left that can be traversed, since some of it is now on private land or is simply no longer there. For anything we can’t traverse, we’ll take you to show you where it once was before heading onto an alignment we can follow.
I will release DAILY videos on my YouTube, and of course, just like my Appalachian Trail videos, you will receive some history lessons along the way. Videos will be delayed a couple of days but should start rolling out on July 10th.
If you wish to meet up or have a suggestion on a place to check out, please reach out to me.
Treasure Hunt
If you see us along the route, make sure to come over and say hi! I will be handing out Route 66 stickers, AND I have a couple of copies of my new My Route 66 Mother Road Story logbook that I will give out to the first five lucky individuals who find me and say, “I can’t believe I found Nutty Hiker on Route 66.”

My Route 66 Mother Road Story
I will also be dropping off a book in each state at an undisclosed location for you to find. Clues will be given out on my Facebook page and Facebook personal profile (feel free to follow so you can see posts in your feed). The first person to solve the clues, reach the location, and tell the keeper of the book, “I heard Nutty Hiker stopped in here,” will receive the book, which comes with a sticker from me in the sticker section and your first autograph in the back (compliments of yours truly). Don’t forget to ask the establishment to sign/stamp/sticker it too!

I will be posting more information about this treasure hunt soon, so keep an eye out!
