After 15 years I have gone back to work!

November 3, 2015 by Nutty Hiker Last Modified: November 3, 20157 Comments

15 years ago while I was pregnant with my 3rd child, me and my husband at the time decided I would leave the workforce permanently to stay at home with our children. For the last 15 years I have been a full-time mother and wife.

During the last 15 years I have graduated from college (twice), owned (and still own) my own professional photography business, and became a freelance writer (mostly known for my Dear Military Spouse column).

Last March I was given the opportunity to become a freelance journalist/photographer for my local city newspaper after they heard about my Miles For Rss story and running into my blog here. I jumped at the chance. My youngest is 12 and pretty self-sufficient. Plus, I wouldn’t really be gone while they were at home, and if I did have a story I was only gone 30 minutes to an hour.

About two weeks ago, my editor called me and asked how I would feel about taking over the editor position and doing sales (after training of course). I again jumped at the chance. Starting out this is a part-time job, which is great because it allows me to get my feet wet and I work while my kids are in school. Yesterday, was my first day back at work for someone else after 15 years of staying at home!

Needless to say, it felt GREAT to be back among adults and back in an office again! So to celebrate I made my editor take a picture with me =) Thanks Annie! Don’t mind my glasses, I forgot to take them off!

1st Day at my job after 15 years of being a SAHM
