What I am Reviewing

Today I get to review the Extra Strength Pickle Juice Shot from The Pickle Juice Company! Let me just say, I have been drinking the juice out of a jar of pickles since I was a kid (I mean who hasn’t right). If you want to annoy your mom in a matter of seconds, drink the juice out of the jar of pickles while there are still pickles in the jar!

As I got older, I realized the benefits of that juice after a workout (or hike). To say I was excited to try out this pickle juice shot would be an understatement.

What I Liked

Taste – Dear Pickle Juice, how I love thee, let me count the ways! LOL. It tastes just like the juice from a pickle jar y’all!

Convenient – These single-shot 2.5 fl oz servings are the perfect size to throw in your gym bag or backpack for a day hike or short backpacking trip. While I wouldn’t carry these on long-distance backpacking trips due to their size and weight, pickle juice shots are readily available at most Wal-Marts and grocery stores across the U.S. It would be super easy to grab a couple during town stops to drink while taking a Nero or Zero.

Healthier than Sports Drinks – Based on the ingredient list, you can tell immediately it is healthier than drinking a sports drink that is full of artificial crap and ingredients you cannot pronounce. As I have gotten older, it has become more important to me to know what is going into my body. I try to eliminate as many artificial and processed foods and ingredients as I can, and in turn, my body has thanked me!

Helps after hike leg cramps and fatigue – While I didn’t get to go on a major long-distance hike to test out the full capabilities, I did spend 6 hours walking around the Zoo and did a total of 8 miles. The real test will be when it starts warming up here in Texas. The first thing I noticed was I had no cramping in my legs that evening (I typically do when I hike or walk more than 5 miles).

I also didn’t drink near enough water either (mostly soda) so I was expecting full-on leg cramps. I had none! For testing purposes, I had one before leaving for the zoo, one after coming back to my hotel, and one before bed. Did I need 3? I have no idea, but I really loved it, and the temptation was too strong.

What to Improve

More Convenient Packaging For Long Distance Backpackers – The truth is, a long-distance backpacker is not going to carry these small bottles around due to weight and the amount of room they take up. However, putting them in small lightweight individual use pouches would solve both those issues. Or finding some way to dehydrate it to a powder form that can be added to water (I am not sure that is even possible, but worth a mention) would be the optimal solution.

Overall Impression of the Pickle Juice Shot

It tastes just like juice out of the pickle jar and will now be a staple in my hiking/workout kit. I really wasn’t expecting a strong flavor, so I was pleasantly surprised when it literally tasted like the stuff out of a pickle jar! I had it at room temperature and it was great! Refrigeration is not required, but you can if you like it cold. It did an amazing job of preventing leg cramps. This small pickle juice shot in 2.5 fl oz bottles makes it convenient to pack for a trip or put in your gym bag. They will now be a regular staple in this house and on my trips.

Where to Buy

You can buy Pickle Juice shots off of their website, additionally, I found them at all my local Walmarts!
