This evening (very late I might add) NASA will be launching 5 suborbital sounding rockets in just over five minutes from the Wallops Facility in Virginia as part of a study of the upper level jet stream. The launch window is set for March 15th from Midnight – 1:30AM (that would be this evening heading into the morning hours of tomorrow for those who seem to become confused).
Per NASA, “these five rockets will release a chemical tracer that will form milky, white clouds that allow scientists and the public to “see” the winds in space. These clouds may be visible for up to 20 minutes by residents from South Carolina to southern New Hampshire and Vermont”.
Those who live in this area should note that you are not witnessing UFO’s or an attack. So don’t pee your pants, think the world is ending, or put on your handy-dandy alien mind scanner blockers. It’s just NASA, doing what they do best, shooting off rockets.
If you stay up late enough to witness it (I will be one of those crazy ones with a camera and video outside pointed toward the sky as my neighbors here on post look at me like I have lost my mind), comment and let me know what you got to see, or give leave a link to any pictures you take.
